No-cook meals

Given that the cost of gas and electricity is rising rapidly, I wondered what ideas you have for meals that do not require "energy". I don't mean takeaways or ready meals but something you would prepare yourself.

I like a really enormous salad with at least five or six full portions of veg, a bit of protein (which might be one of the veggies), and a dressing. For example, grated carrot, tomatoes, radishes, pre-cooked beetroot (I'm buying the vacuum packs currently, but plan to pre-roast my own in future), cucumber, peppers, drizzled with some extra-virgin olive oil and good balsamic vinegar, then topped with some ricotta cheese and a few pumpkin seeds. Delicious - and will be even better once the veggies are my own!

I'm a fan of big salads, too, but struggle to have no cooked elements, usually the carbs.
When the log burner is running I often put things on the top to simmer slowly or reheat. I've done jacket spuds inside the burner too.

All I can think of are salads and sandwiches, or even Salad Sandwiches.

A lot of ready meals don't need cooking. I had a tuna, sweetcorn and pre cooked rice straight cold  from the container today. Baked beans can be eaten cold as with most tinned goods? Smile
Do as the long distance lorry drivers do and just take the labels off the tins, then pick three tins and mix together! Tongue Big Grin Would make for interesting meals! Rolleyes

As an aside, I can't stand tinned tomatoes heated and always eat them cold.

Cheese and crackers with chutney and fruit.

Gazpacho (no heat, but would need a brief whizz in the blender)

Couscous rehydrates perfectly well in cold water (just takes longer) and can be eaten in a huge variety of ways.
