If you'd put a thick layer of those stones down at the bottom of the trench and covered them, the stones would warm up and act as a heat store.
Could you share his reaction when you suggest that he should dig it out again.

Great idea. Let me know when and I'll lurk behind the hedge for a giggle.

I’m naturally on himselfs side he sounds overworked and over supervised. I bet he doesn’t have a list either.

Having done so.........this could be my last post as my tablet might go flying. If the trenches were a bit deeper I might have considered it but at less than 20 inches before solid stones, subsoil and chalk, I think I'll let the layer of stones idea go.

Probably a wise decision! Stones have a habit of creeping to the surface.

Not that either you or Veggie realise, but he does have a list. Following a hip replacement 15 years ago, one leg is shorter than the other, so he walks with a list.
As for the other type of list, I wouldn't dare! He's the one always on the go with grand plans, usually involving tidying up, weeding and edging lawns in very straight lines.

I would like to go on record and be a bit soppy, so I apologise in advance. Notwithstanding all the sideways digs I been giving my hubby Paul, I think he is the most wonderful husband and I'm truly grateful for all the effort and hard work he's putting into getting my new toy sorted. ♥️ The real fun comes when we have to put the thing up! Tempers may get a bit frayed then.
He won't read this so I will be sure tell him personally, (probably with a few digs as well). I didn't want the G&G crowd to get the wrong impression.
