Spent last couple of days insulating the metal pipes to & from the MVHR

.
Very nearly finished that side of the attic. Need a plug socket fitted above the unit, wires are in place already. Drainage from the unit to connect into the kitchen sink drainage. A few more clips on the pink pipes. That’s it done. We’ll be using some of the blue pallets we acquired to sit over the pink pipes. Conveniently there are the perfect hight to sit over the pipes. So we won’t have lost much storage space at all. There is still a little pile of stuff that side. But it’s all stuff to be used on the build down stairs (some flooring, bathroom, kitchen & utility sinks, oven, taps, and a set of slide out shelves for a kitchen cupboard. )
The other side of the attic is a very different story! So much stuff.

Today we’ve done a DIY air tightness test. Which looks like this

.
So basically we’ve borrowed a fan out of someone car and fitted it into a window. That pressurise the house. Then we walked around it with a couple of joss sticks and find where the air is coming in. We’re relatively pleased with the results. A couple of areas where we can improve. Mostly in the attic. Which is good. Because we can still get on and plasterboard now we’ve done that. We’ll have to have a proper air tightness test done at the end of the build. But hopefully after doing our DIY version we won’t find anything horrendous during the proper test, which would result in having to take plasterboard off again and other damned inconvenient & expensive jobs like that.
We’ll do another DIY test after we’ve done the improvements. Which is just putting a lot more airtight tape around things.

Were the joss sticks not just bringing out the inner hippy in you?

First time Bob walked into my grandparents home when she had some joss sticks burning blow his tiny mind. A bit of a paradox to see such things in a house like that. Most definitely not aging hippies.
