Boil up your stew, beans, rice pudding, whatever in a heavy lidded casserole dish.
Find a solid box, pack the bottom with hay, straw, shredded paper whathaveyou,
Put the hot pan in the box and pack around with more insulating material.
Put the lid on the box and walk away for a few hours.
The pan carries on cooking using its own heat.
Plenty of Youtube stuff on how to make one.

I'm coming back to this because I made some oat and sultana cookies today for son number 1....special request.
They recipe uses tinned condensed milk so that had to go on the shopping list last night. I used to use quite a few tins of this. Love home made fudge too!

I have too much tinned food - most of which I've been given over the years. I've decided to use up at least one tin a day.
I started with carrot & coriander soup for lunch (not my favourite but I have 4 tins of it!). Then I remembered this thread. I'm trying out one of the recipes as we speak https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/dal_makhani_30779
That's 4 tins used ( Coconut milk, tomatoes, brown lentils and red kidney beans.
I've used coconut oil (not butter) and an elephant garlic clove (not garlic puree).
All the ingredients have been FREE.
I'll be cooking some FREE basmati rice to go with it later.

Not really relevant to this thread but it saves having to start a new one . I have five frying pans, a stainless steel large one,(which I like) an aluminuim large one, an aluminium small one (crepe pan?) a cast iron ridged pan and a teflon coated frying pan in the motorhome. I have just ordeed another cast iron skillet from Amazon which has handles each side and can be used in the oven. My intention is to get id of the aluminium pan and possibly the teflon coated pan as well.
I think that people didn't get iron deficiency in the past because they used cast iron pans and I am looking fowad to using it. I also have a poper steel wok which I have to oil afte use to stop it rusting.
Do othes use cast iron pans and do you rate them? I looked at Le Cruier pans but my pockets wouldn't stetch that far!

I have cast iron frying pans - 2 sets of 3 in different sizes. They were dirt cheap in a local shop called Hypervalue, long before there were pound shops etc. After use I either wipe them out with paper towel or rinse them out with water, no washing up liquid. Keep them a bit oily to stop rust.
I have some Le Creuset casserole dishes but don't use them now that I'm not cooking on the Aga. Used to have a full set of their saucepans too but they were so heavy to use that I gave them away.
All my saucepans and pressure cooker are stainless steel - nothing aluminium or teflon coated.

I bought my cast iron pans 40 years ago, 3 frying pans, 2 sauce pans and a Dutch oven that I cook my sourdough in. All lids are interchangeable plus the handles screw of to use in the oven. I do love my pans.

Looks a good recipe. I like that it's pregnancy friendly, so you'll be safe eating it. might be a bit windy though
