A local chap just posted on FB "Just bought 40 Litres of Multi purpose compost in Asda for 43p a bag." Might be worth checking your local Asda - if you have one.

I was in Morries yesteday and they were selling potting compost off cheaply. I can't remember the the price (cretainly not 43p though!) because I remember thinking I could use a couple of bags of it instead of manure for my onion sets and just add a bit of slow release aftificial I aleady have?

I went to Asda but it had all gone. I was hoping for cheap seeds but all I could find was a packet of beetroot seeds in a random place, totally unconnected with gardening - baby foods or summat.
Haven't been to Asda for years - it was very quiet there and no YS bargains. I think that's why I stopped going there - and its a bit out of the way.

If its any help. I was talking to the gardener at a stately home that was going to be taken over by the National Trust. He told me that they sow Rudbeckia seeds in all the empty spaces as they need little attention and look good. They did, too, I'd better look for my Rudbeckia seeds.
You wree right Veggie the plants are very small but at least they have a good root system and seemed healthy. I took a photo of them as they were received and another after I had potted them on. They will stay on the windowsill for a couple of weeks to see if they put on any growth? and I will hopefully plant them out once they have filled the pots with roots?

Thanks Vinny. That's the module size I remember - I still have them somewhere! As you say, they look healthy so they should take off now they have some more wriggle room.
