Good news!! My little shop is opening for an hour a day from today. The shopkeeper says there's not enough stock to open all hours but he should be able to have something on the shelves from now on - as long as I'm not one of those picky customers that wants out of season fruit and veg. As if I would!
I came home with some first of the season rhubarb, mangetout and rocket. Pretty pleased with my purchases.

My shop keeper told me it's still SHUT when I came to get a little salad leaves. He shouted they're not big enough yet! I still managed to snatch a few for my tea

My shopkeeper promised to write to his Welsh counterpart to tell him he has pea flowers too.

Sill not much in stock but I've had a few lettuce leaves and Kale florets. Only one jar of dehydrated apple slices left those won't be restocked until around August time.

The little shop is still quite empty. But it has a reasonable supply of microgreens/ baby leaf salad. I keep looking at the rhubarb on the shelves. Very tempted by it, but feel it might become more expensive in the future if I take it now. There’s is a notice in the windows saying asparagus is coming soon. Also a promise of a new range of tomatoes later in the year. Hope they’re as good as last year. Shop keep was very excited to tell me he’ll be talking to lots of new suppliers for beans , squash, courgettes, sweet corn & sunflowers in the next couple of days.
I think it’s great to find a shop keeper so passionate about every stage of the produces journey. Not just how much he can get for the end result. He may not always be 100% reliable but he actually cares about the stuff he has and about sharing it with as many local customers as possible.

My local shopkeeper has started daily promotions to tempt the customers to shop with him, just like the supermarket do! He thinks he can outdo the supermarkets with their free pyrex offers and fishy Fridays. "Customers like a little freeby with their shopping" he said with a wink as if he knew me very well!
Today is Munchday Monday and every shopper receives FREE mangetout with their purchases. He wouldn't reveal tomorrow's offer, telling me that I'd have to come back to find out.
I'll be there, you know me, can't resist something for nothing!

Popped into the Little Shop, just looking, you understand.
There was a big sign in the doorway - "Chewsday Special! Lucky Dip for every customer".
I picked up the usual mix of green leaves and went to checkout. "Do you want to try your hand at the Lucky Dip?" asked the shopkeeper. I didn't like to say it was the only reason I'd called - so I didn't!
"There you are, young lady" he said, patting his assistance dog, "Have a furtle in that tub and see what you can find."
It was one of those 30ltr tubs, that he grows his plants in, full of damp soil. Rather gingerly, I had a little rummage around the roots and uncovered a bright, shiny new potato. So exciting!! There was no stopping me now. I furtled and rootled, rummaged and grubbed until I'd found enough potatoes for dinner tonight.
I thanked the shopkeeper effusively for such a special, Special Offer. Come back tomorrow, little customer, and there'll be another special offer for my loyal customers.
I probably won't sleep tonight, wondering what it might be.

My shop keeper has been busy sorting out stock today. It turns out he stocks other little local shops as well as his own. That explains why there always looks like a lot in there but very little for sale. He was telling me today he’s just pick up a new outlet to supply.
