Cut down the autumn raspberries. Gathered up the tips of broad beans and sweet peas that the mice (I believe) have chopped off from the seedlings and replanted the 'cuttings' in a pot. Transferred the remaining beans and peas to the cold frame with accompanying mouse trap. Retrieved a couple of house plants on the brink of death from negect. Put the spider plant and tradescantia tips into pots. Did a bit of weeding.

Its Roots & Shoots week so I scattered lots of old carrot seeds in an open bottomed tub (half a blue waterbutt filled with old tomato compost) and some old leek seeds where last year's leeks lived. Some of these leeks were left to flower and set seed in situ. Lots of leek seedlings growing there already. Lazy gardening Big Grin
Cleared lots of dead montbretia leaves that were overhanging the oregano/marjoram (no idea which it is) and cut down last year's dead stems to expose the new growth. Accidentally pulled up some rooted bits so they're soaking in water for a few days until I decide where to plant them - probably alongside a path as an edible edge.
Did some weeding in VP1 and the old pond, which is dry at the moment. No sign of frogspawn this year.

Made a plan of where I’m actually going to plant all the edibles I intend to grow this year (if they grow).
Need to do the same with flowers at some point.
Helped Bob put in a gate post.

Caught one of the mice which are eating my broad bean tips. Weeding, getting rid, as quick as I can, of the bittercress and shepherd's purse that is already flowering.

It was a good day for a leek! Planted 3 leek stumps, weeded the self-sown leeks and replanted a few that I pulled out by mistake. Planted some leek seedlings that I sowed months ago and have been sitting in a box, waiting to be planted. I now have a designated leek bed in VP5.
Cleared a lot of wild strawberry plants that were invading VP5. Decided to be ruthless as they weren't good fruiters and I have my eye on this patch for courgettes in a month's time.
Planted a primrose that was in a pot - no idea where it came from, but it has a new home next to some dwarf daffodils at the top of the main path down the garden. I hope to edge the path with flowers and herbs.

Making seed & compost mixes. Used 99 packets of seeds in the process. Then carefully placing little piles of the mix throughout the beds. Sown seeds. Collected coffee grounds & egg shells from the cafe. Put some of the coffee in the compost bin. Raked some of it into the still not full veg bed. Washed egg shells.

Sown seeds. Filled 2 fish boxes in the tunnel with fresh compost/ soil/ manure mix. One now has samphire in it, other is ready for Bombay bronze. Refreshed the top of the tomato bed. Potted up the bare root plants that arrived today. Put egg shell on the top of the pots to help deter slugs. Some new weed suppressant pins finally arrived today. So been trying some of them out.

Nothing gardening related for the last couple of days, because I pulled a double shift yesterday, and did four hours today at work. I'm hoping to space working hours out a little better than that, going forward.

However, today we sent off our signed contract to sell the house in the UK, which should go through before the end of March! That means we can finally buy the house here and move on with our lives. Lives without much in ways of bills, may I add. We celebrated with pizza.

    With supervisors!

Its Herbsday so I created a little herb bed and planted it with some cuttings I'd taken last year - thyme, rosemary, lavender and the oregano I pulled up by accident a few days ago.
Scattered lots of old herb seeds there.
Most of the "soil" is smashed up rotten wood - still some larger pieces to break up around the edges.
Took some photos to remind me of all the work I need to do.

I forgot to record what I did yesterday.
Sowed seeds, ordered seeds, made a kitchen roll holder for my shed, did a little bit of tidying around my pot store area. Harvested a few carrots      . Weeded , removed weed roots from 2 fish boxes. Emptied them into new raised bed. Emptied a couple of pots that didn’t survive winter.
