2025 - What I sowed today

I sowed some Fordhook Giant chard. Also transplanted into 2" pots (because the ground isn't ready for them yet) some old saved broad bean seeds, a big handful of which I had chucked in a tray and covered up with spent compost. I didn't expect them to grow but lo and behold all but a couple sprouted. I had neglected to furtle to check them, so the seeds had 4" roots. 60 of them in pots now.

I sowed my tomatoes today. Far too many as usual. I have resolved to cull unwanted and weedy ones rather than retain every one.

^^^ if you really want to know all the varieties, I'll do a list but otherwise I won't bore you, there's not many new ones.

Lots of sowing yesterday -
Red & green cabbages, blanching and cutting celery, celeriac (haven't tried growing it for years as it is usually too hot and dry, but after two unrelentingly wet summers, I thought I'd give it another go. Cue drought...), lettuce, leeks, beetroot, okra, pumpkins, NZ spinach and some started flowers - verbena bonariensis & gaillardia - but I must go through the rest of the flower seeds!

First sowing of the season for me. I sowed one 70 plug tray of cottage garden seeds & one tray of Beee friendly seeds. Both on windowsills for the time being!
