2025 - What I did today

Now I know why I hate housework. Having got the new bed in it looks almost like a bedroom rather than a junk room (it won't last). Looking at curtains and venetian blinds, they had the crud of ages on them. Wash curtains - they're velveteen and are extremely old. I wasn't too hopeful they would survive a wash or even maybe come out like crushed velvet, but they're OK. We managed to get them washed, dried and rehung all in one day. Looked at all the tops of wardrobes and cupboards they needed washing down. All I wanted at the start of this escapade was to wipe some mould off a wall behind the bed, I wasn't intending to spring clean the whole room! I feel a bit like Michael Cain in The Italian Job saying 'You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off' after the bod had demolished the van.
Gardening is an excuse not to do housework

Shuffled the pots, from yesterday, around the garden, from where I dumped them yesterday.
Cleared a patch of ground, near the original chicken run, for the fruit bushes. There are 3 blackberries (seem to be thornless) so they can go against the wire with the fruit bushes in front of them. There are a couple of raspberries and a redcurrant, all looking a bit starved from growing in small pots.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll set them free to do their thing! Its not the sunniest spot but it will do until I see how the plants recover.

Today I’ve been removing loose rust & paint from some army ammo boxes. Treated them with rust stuff. Tomorrow I’ll be attacking them with WD40 to get everything moving more easily. Apparently the rust stuff has to be painted. On top of. Which is a shame, I’d like to keep them as they are.

5 will be new seed boxes for me and 5 for Bob to store things in his garage.

Walked the dogs and did a bit of seed juggling.

SC, I think there are some of those ammo boxes in the garage - a drab brown colour. I've no idea what's in them, if anything! My OH had a mate who owned an Army Surplus shop so he was always acquiring stuff!

You’ll have to let us know if you find anything exciting in them  Big Grin . Bob found these tins via a Facebook suggested post or something. £4 each delivered. Didn’t think that was bad at all. They’re going to be very useful. Bob is always braking plastic containers in his garage. And I can get lots of seed packets in one of them  Big Grin .

SC just shown your boxes to MrB  because he also likes those sorts of things and he  says instead of painting your boxes you could Matt lacquer  them instead.

I'd paint them with Hammerite as I like the metallic sheen it gives.

If they're painted you lose that  authentic look.

Luckily Bob had some lacquer so I will be lacquering my 5 . Bob wants his painted oxidised red.
I’ve only lacquered one today, waiting to see what it’s like when it dries. And rain kinda stopped play . Hopefully I’ll get them done tomorrow.

I’ve been seed sorting today. One more tin of edibles to sort out . Then I start on the flowers.
