What is your favourite vegetable? Is your favourite the same for growing & eating? Or do you have a different one for each? Does your favourite have to be a particular variety or are you happy to generalise? 

I’m finding this a very difficult one to answer myself. 

For growing it’s definitely cucurbit. Narrowed down to pumpkin/ squash/ courgette.  I’ll have to have a think, to see if I can narrow it down any further. As for eating tromb is definitely up there because it’s so versatile. But the same could be said for pumpkins, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and spuds to name but a few    Huh Blush . Also needs some more thinking about.


Are you as indecisive as me or do you know your favourites?

If I could only choose one vegetable to grow it would be tomatoes. Nothing beats the taste of a homegrown tomato - shop tomatoes are inferior in all ways.
Courgettes come second - if its a good year, but I haven't had one of those recently.

For me, it's onions grown from sets which are easy to grow and can supply an onion to use in the kitchen 52 weeks of the year. I would have a joint second of leeks and courgettes in season.
I see onions (or any alliums for that matter?) as a flavouring for meat rather than a vegetable! Rolleyes Big Grin

It might change from year to year. Last year I liked the broccoli I grew and have resolved to grow it again. TBH I don't grow anything that isn't a favourite. Strawberries might be strong contender, although they're not strictly a veg.

Mines tomatoes, homegrown ones. Once my fresh ones have finished I’ve usually got enough roast ones in the freezer to last a while.
I never buy supermarket toms unless they’re in tins.

I don't think I can pick a favourite.

One of my earliest memories is a cheese and beetroot butty while the beetroot is still warm. Potatoes in all its forms Onions, garlic, leeks, tomatoes, beans all delicious. One that I wouldn't miss would be rhubarb - too often the evening meal, stewed with custard and served with a plate of bread and marge in childhood.
