V is for Violets. Very delicate unlike Parma Violets which are a love/hate smell and taste. I asked the Duck about them and they were first made in 1946 - before I was born! Apparently they were sold as breath fresheners and frequently sold in pubs. I can't imagine a drunken errant husband (or wife) rolling back from the pub smelling of Parma Violets and fooling anyone that they were sober.

Are those hideous things still available? I’m definitely in the hate camp for them.

Malt vinegar, distilled or brown, I don't like the smell or taste. P likes it on fish & chips, the smell just puts me off. Our lad would drink the stuff! I'm not that keen on pickles either unless they're sweet. Now balsamic, red wine, apple cider vinegars are all lovely. I must have refined tastes Big Grin

Now I've just read SC's post. Nothing original here is there?

W smells of wet dog. And I like it. No particular memories attached to the smell. But it usually means the dogs have been having fun . Skew playing with the hosepipe or swimming in which ever body of water he can. Or it’s Breeze ditch diving. Unfortunately in most cases he comes out smelling like a muddy wet dog. On occasion he does find a clean ditch to play in.

I was stuck with W - all I could think of were Wallies, Wellies, Woollies and Willies. Big Grin
As I Wandered and I pondered I found an odd looking Weed..............it was a self seeded Wallflower...........and that's my W.
Wallflowers, my grandfather used to grow them on his allotment. You used to buy them bare-rooted, Wrapped in Wet newspaper. haven't seen them like that for years. Wish I'd sown some now - Wonder if its too late?

Washing hanging to dry indoors in the winter. It scents out the house and is quite pleasant.

X is X-tremely difficult so I'll choose X-otic smells - the smell of foreign spice markets, heat rising from the baked hard ground, palm trees, long robes maybe a donkey or camel....

Is that eXtraordinary favourite perfume you use all the time and you're sad when the bottle finishes and it's no longer on sale.
