I struggled with L .
I nearly went with lemon. Because the smell of a lemon meringue pie or lemon cake or the savoury options of lemon chicken or lemon grass being added to a curry all smell delicious.

I decided to go with laurel. Because I’m always surprised at what a beautiful fragrance its flowers have.
I remember the first time I got a whiff of it. It took me ages walking back and forth to work out where it was coming from. I sniffed pretty much everything else first. I had no idea laurel was scented.

M is for manure
It’s either a big pile of well rotted manure with it’s very special aroma that means you’re playing in the garden and it’s all going to grow beautifully because you’ve got your hand on a pile of black gold. Which obviously makes you happy.
Or
It’s the very fragrant aroma of fresh manure. This also makes me happy because it means I’m in close proximity to animals and probably very happy.

M is for Marzipan.
That fragrant almond smell that makes me think of Christmas (don't worry, I'm not ill)................its the best thing about that time of the year. Stollen, with its marzipan centre. Packets of marzipan for cake decorating or, in my case, eating without the faff of making a cake.
Even a Battenburg cake can brighten my day.

I like marzipan too, not keen on royal or fondant icing though. Simnel cake is right up my street.

I missed M

Methylated Spirits, not really pleasant but not unpleasant. Reminds me of dad firing up the model traction engine which ran on meths.

N

Nail polish remover. The old sort that smelled of acetone. I just love it, along with aeroplane glue and the gluey stuff that gets painted on glass fibre patches for repairs. I used to work near a glass fibre factory, it was a lovely smell walking past it. As a child my brother used to build model aeroplanes and the smell of the glue was wonderful. Just as well I didn't realise you could get high on the stuff, I'd have been well away.

I admit it, I was. Maybe that accounts for a lot of things.   Big Grin Acetone, pear drops, anything volatile. Even today there are some marker pens that smell devine. Luckily I never resorted to a paper bag full of the stuff.

N is for Nutmeg

Another Christmassy smell - sorry! I have a wooden nutmeg mill, like a little coffee or pepper mill that hold whole nutmegs. Give the handle a turn and out comes freshly ground nutmeg. I know that for a fact because I've just done it. Aahh, the smell. Big Grin
The nutmegs last for ever which appeals to the Moneyless chickens of this world!
