Shelves are now levelled and filled with all my mint varieties and some other herbs.

Very exciting having a bit more of the veg garden in place.

Starting to look more like a polytunnel

I’ve been collecting stones from all round the garden. I need a lot more. But it’s a start.

I wouldn’t have collected half that amount without skews help. I’d start picking stones off the surface and skew would start digging. I got loads more thanks to my little digger dog  Cool . I need the stones to go all around the outside the tunnel as paths and to hold down the excess plastic at the bottom of the tunnel. I don’t cut it off because it stops drafts and weeds. Also reduces easy access for little furry critters.

We covered the polytunnel today. The friends that are staying helped. It’s very exciting. Just got to work out how things will go inside and put blinds on the doors.

I can’t stress strongly enough. Taking the advice of all polytunnel companies everywhere, is a very good idea. Not to try covering the tunnel on a windy day  Big Grin  Rolleyes . It made it more exciting at times  Rolleyes .

I have a Mary Poppins image of you and your friends drifting out over the sea, hanging from your polytunnel. Big Grin
Looks great. Big Grin

A day of levelling beds. Quite a lot of levelling was needed

The finished layout. Just got to fill all the beds now.

Bob moving some peat up to the top of the garden for me.

Daft question! Can you mix your "peat" with the bought "peatfree" compost, or isn't it the right sort of peat?

That’s exactly what I’m going to do  Big Grin . I have no idea if it’s the right sort of peat. Hopefully going to get some manure to mix in with it as well.

Failed to get any manure. Lambing started so the farm is a bit busy.
So I went with peat, compost , handful of chicken manure pellets, a good sprinkling of blood, fish & bone and hope!

Inside of little tunnel is now complete.

So I’ve got 3 permanent raised beds and the bath. A couple of gaps to use for fish boxes / tubs/ pots or hard standing or what ever I like. This year it’ll definitely be over crowded. But eventually the bath will go back to being the carrot bed. I was going to have 2 of the raised beds for my asparagus but not sure now as they seem to be doing quite well outside.
So at least 1 of those beds or all 3 will be for anything and everything that doesn’t fit in the other tunnels.

Every time I mix up a batch of compost there's an incredible amount of hope involved, but things are growing OK so far. Fingers crossed.
