Inflation

The 0.4% fall marked the first decrease in more than two years, with cooking sauce and instant coffee costs also easing."

We must be on the Letter C this month - Crackers, Cake, Crisps, Cooking Sauce and instant Coffee! 
Don't know about you but none of these items feature regularly on my shopping list and I wouldn't notice whether they cost less in January or more. I'd class all of these as non-essential items - apart from, maybe, coffee. Any "savings" I made from this price drop would be negligible whilst the rise in electricity and gas costs is significant. 

Which items on your food shopping list would be more representative of a food price fall? I'd choose cheese and butter, eggs, bread and dog food...and Seeds.

My shopping list would include organic milk, bread flour, cheddar cheese and eggs. Organic Aldi oats and Aldi baked beans. Coffee Direct Machu Pichu and Divine 85% chocolate. Then Zaytoun olive oil, olive soap, dates and maftoul.

Maftoul is a new word for me!

It's a large grain Palestinian couscous, much nicer than couscous though, we eat it with a tomato vegetable sauce or such like.

I need to move to the Falklands? Apparently the only thing that survives reaklly well there are sheep. Hence mutton and lamb are the staple diet and very cheap!  Everthing else is delivered on a ship, twice a year!

Got no fancy for living in an igloo!  Anyway I  haven't tasted whalemeat or blubber (I'd give it a try though?) but really enjoy eating fatty lamb!

Matfoul was new to me too.

I'll have to dig out old receipts to see whether prices are lower, I can't say I'd noticed. Crisps, crackers and cake aren't usually on my shopping list. Milk, eggs, juice, chicken portions of some sort, cereal and veg are on the list most weeks.
