MT, strawberries & chard. I could pull the beetroot and cut a courgette but don't need them tonight.

My autumn raspberries aren't even in flower yet, or have I pruned them wrongly?

JJB I always leave a few canes not pruned so I can have a few early raspberries.

Good advice Bren, I'll try that next year.

Raspberries (Joan J and Autumn Bliss) and courgettes. I never bother cutting raspberries down (a bit lazy). A lot of the old canes have grown a few new shoots that have given a reasonable quantity of fruit, over 2.5kg so far. The 2 year old canes are dead and snap quite easily into bits. It probably means a reduced summer/autumn crop.

My fruit cage is a bit like a jungle now though. I've 2 cherry trees that are loaded with ripening fruit but the holes in the roof show that there are others that are interested in this crop. I've 2 red currant, 3 black currant and 4 gooseberry bushes and a row of raspberries. I thought I had pruned the bushes enough over winter but when I first went in the cage it was almost impenetrable. The raspberries are coming up through most of the bushes and there looks to be a mass of red currants coming - if I am able to keep the black birds out. They do get in occasionally through the squirrel holes.

Green and yellow haricot, mangetout, round and long courgettes, carrots, strawberries.
This is the first day that the veg harvest exceeds what we need for a meal (beans) so we can start saving for the winter. That always feels like a step change in the season - Happy Midsummer!
