Gloves

Do you think I need some new ones?    

   

Hopefully new ones will be arriving tomorrow. 

Just out of interest what sort of gloves do you garden in? What jobs do you use gloves for? What size gloves do you use? 

I’m a size 7. Which makes finding gloves to fit a challenge at times.

My gloves are looking a bit like that too!

I have small hands too (a patient once said they were "like a baby doll's" ). I wear a 6.5 when I can get them in work, but even small gardening gloves tend to be huge.

I actually usually buy children's gardening gloves from Wilko (or the supermarkets tend to have the same ones under their own brand): https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-kids-g.../p/0486964 They have the advantage of being much cheaper than gloves for adults.

However, my absolute best ever gloves were from Lidl a couple of years ago. They are actually sized properly (I got a 7) rather than just S/M or M/L, and made from cotton and goat's leather. I think they were £7.99 and I am desperately hoping they get some more in some time this year as my existing pair have holes in the finger tips. Too big on me for handling fine seeds, but great for pruning or hauling type jobs.

I have a few pairs like yours SC. No idea what glove size I should wear so I go for Medium. I can't wear gloves for seed sowing, pricking out or any of the more delicate jobs - or when blowing my nose!
Type - I like the ones with "plastic" palms and fabric backs and ladies' rigger gloves for pulling up nettles and cutting down brambles. Sometimes I wear 2 pairs of gloves at once for extra protection which is when the fingertip-less gloves come in useful.

I’ve been wearing building gloves (oddly enough). They’ve been very good fit and last well, but the small size is more expensive than medium or large! I’ve found that a few times. It really annoys me.

My new gloves arrived. They’re a very good fit. Only time will tell how long they last.

   

Now I can carry on with weeding of stingy & spiky things. Mostly wear them when handling wood. Very fine splinters in larch. And for picking up anything really, rocks, slabs, pots. Anything that potentially could have red ants or spiders underneath   . Spiders because they are terrifying, ants because I react very badly.

I like the fabric backed ones similar to yours for majority of lifting, carrying and weeding but have some leather gloves for sharp spiky things to reduce spikes. Tend not to wear gloves when handling seeds or harvesting fruit and veg or if I'm just passing something and notice it needs sorting I'll just do it without gloves or it won't get done.

I only wear gloves for brambles/nettles and heavy gardening ( so winter/early Spring) I dont use them for planting, weeding or sowing seeds. I still use the same - town and country... though even the leather ones wear through in a year. I also have small hands - I hate it when the hand bit fits then the fingers only reach half way. I have small hands and feet.
Im short too... went on holiday last month
to Cornwall and the old lady next door was tiny! I said its not often I can see the top of someones head she said she started off my height (4ft 11) thats on a good day and now only 4ft 6!!!

I only wear gloves if I'm doing something harsh on my hands, like last weekend when I was chopping back roses and shredding the cuttings. It absolutely batters my nails, which saddens me, but I find that glove-wearing jobs are sloppy. I have no idea what size glove I should wear lol
