I also use penstemon with roses, flowers at a different time and easy to take cuttings from to fill in the gaps.

Ooh that’s a lovely dark red one. I’ve got a bright red with white inside. Love that peach rose as well.
That clematis is lovely growing in amongst the rose. I could do that .
Builder that would like to go play in the garden.

I lost all my penstemon cuttings this winter the ones in the garden haven't sprouted yet... if they are all gone i will just buy in some new young plants and take cuttings.
I love peach and the dark purple... I think it maybe raven or blackberry. Growing from cuttings in the greenhouse over winter, they will flower in the autumn and fill in your gaps. Lupins are short lived here. I start new every year but they flower the same time as roses. O love euphorbias.... poppies may fill in your gaps?
