A Permanent Potato Patch

Thanks Mark. The slugs that trouble me are those little black ones that burrow into the spuds. I'm trying some in pots this year but I've given up hoping for edible spuds out of the soil.

I was surprised to see that - almost forgotten they were there.
Going to add a few more sprouting spuds soon. All sprouting spuds are going to be planted - that my new rule.

No list, Sarriss. That might mean I'd have to stick to them.
I replant sprouting onions too. Gives you nice green leaves to use like spring onions/chives and, eventually flowers and seeds. They're in my permanent onion bed - which is different to the permanent leek bed and the elephant garlic bed.

I just happened upon this nutty thread so thought I'd give you an update.
The spuds grew well and I kept meaning to dig some up and see what they'd done. Then, one day, I went there and they'd all died off. Don't think it was blight, just got tired of waiting for me to do something.
The next plan is to leave them until next year and see whether they grow again.
(I'm trying to make this sound like that was what I'd intended to do all along )

The only thing that I do which resembles your permanent potato patch is my Jerusalem artichoke patch. I haven't checked to see if I am getting diminishing returns or not but they have been in the same spot for four years now?

I have a Chinese Artichoke permanent patch. They look so horrible (like witchetty grubs) that I can't bring myself to eat one.

Yeah, they come in all different colours a well. I have tasted them before and they are crunchy rather than squishy!
