A week or so ago I sowed 4 sorts of sweet peas, with different "sow by" years for each one - the earliest being 2015.
The only ones to germinate were 2020, the newest ones I sowed.
As a result, I emptied all the old packets into a tub and will scatter them all in spring, just in case!!
Today, I oversowed the failed trays with slightly newer seeds (not 2021 yet).

Its Sweet pea time again - time when I plan to grow them but rarely succeed. Thanks for the reminder SC.
When will everyone be sowing theirs please? I need all the help I can get.

Looking back over this thread. I’m going with the end of this month. The ones that did germinate for me last year have done very well. The ones that didn’t germinate were all old seed. I want to sow lots this year. I’ve really enjoyed having sweet peas in the garden again.

I've no experience with sweet peas and intend to rectify that. If I sow some this month do they have to be kept under cover?

But I don’t know if that’s because I should or because I’m in the frozen north. I’m leaning towards that it’s standard practice to keep under cover with autumn sowing.

Just by chance Higgledy Garden has just offered advice and a special offer of Sweet pea seeds. https://higgledygarden.com/2021/10/01/au...et-peas-2/

That’s a very tempting offer . Just can’t justify £15 on sweet peas. But that would be a stunning display. Definitely one of my favourite flowers.
