2022 - What I did today

Planted out three courgettes (varieties yet to be revealed!), a trombo and five cucumbers (varieties yet ...).
Pricked out red cabbage, lettuce, Thai green pea aubergines, agastache.
Potted on some watermelons.
Put a support frame under the honeysuckle that grows over the pergola along one side of the house. The wires holding it up had collapsed under the weight and I although I hacked it back in the autumn, it's off and rampant again. The shade is essential.
Tidied the deck and put it into summer mode.

Seed shuffling. Working out exactly which seeds from the swap I’ll be sowing.
Strimmed the veggie garden and then walked up to the plot and strimmed around the trees and hedging plants.
Builder that would like to go play in the garden.

Potted up 26 courgettes. Wonder if that will be enough - or should I sow more?  Huh

I've taken a risk and planted out some hunter beans and a tromba. I hope we're not going to have any more cold nights

My Grandma suddenly developed a new problem at the weekend and died yesterday morning. I've been up at her house with my parents since yesterday afternoon, and we'll stay into tomorrow as well.

It's very hard to walk around her garden and see 50 years' worth of her hard work that she will never see again. Her garden and natural history were her great passions in life and she planted everything in that garden apart from the grass, a few ancient apple trees, some violets, and the alkanet that she tried so hard to remove.

I saw her exactly a week before she took ill, and she said how pleased she was that I'd taken after her by having a garden. I doubt I can live up to her garden standard, but I'm glad to have that connection.

My Mum thinks my Grandma would really want me to take some plants for my garden. It's too soon right now, but with the passage of time, I hope I will feel able to think about taking cuttings, or saving seed, or dividing clumps, etc. It certainly would be nice to know that I have plants of hers living on.
Formerly self-contained, but expanding my gardening horizons beyond pots!

So sorry to hear about your Grandma, Pros. xx
I agree with your Mum about the plants. I have a few plants that came from long gone family and they mean so much more than something from a garden centre.
