Best place for plants

I’m going to have to buy a few plants for my garden. At some point 
Where would you recommend buying from? Obviously not T&M .
I’ll use David Austin for roses 
I’ll probably be after some clematis & camellia and flowery shrub type things that take ages or don’t do well from seed.

That narrows the search     . Along with finding companies that will actually deliver here     .

Are there any "local" companies that you could make a day-trip too? Their growing conditions may be a better match for you than somewhere down South with different soil.

For clematis and fruit bushes, I have always had great success with Morrisons actually. I don't have any camellias but will listen out for recommendations here too, as I'd quite like some

I find Clematis and lots of shrubs do well from cuttings if you are not in too much of a hurry and your neighbours don't mind.

I've often taken cuttings from overhanging vegetation when out walking.

What's your secret Mark? I've taken loads of cuttings of clematis and not a single one has worked. I've tried putting them in water, in compost, on the edge of a pot, in the middle... in sand, in gravel, nothing has worked lol

I think it must have been the time of year, probably early summer. In compost covered with a plastic bag on a Northwest facing kitchen window ledge. In the next few weeks should be good time when they are growing strongly and not too woody.

I did take some in autumn last year and put in a propagator but none took. They seemed to be still alive all over winter but in Jan/Feb, there were no roots and the leaves dropped off eventually.

Clematis root 'internodal', they don't root below a leaf joint. I think the idea is you take a long piece (60cm) and wrap it around your hand so that it has multiple breaks, you then set it in compost..................Or, as has already been mentioned, Morrisons can be a good source of plants. I always have a snoop around the plant section when there and usually come away with a couple of 'yellow sticker' jobbies to revive at home.
