A nice bit of sunshine here too, so I got going digging out Spanish bluebells from my lawn-to-be. Then the hail shower came down and I came indoors

What a cold night, they forecast -5 on the telly but Met office said only -1. I covered up what I could just in case. Just as well I did, it was -5 outside and -3.8 in the gh, my experiment with the spare toms in the new gh has failed they couldn't cope with that temperature even with several layers of fleece, I fear they are well and truly frosted. Luckily the ones in the old lower gh survived. The toms were surplus to requirements but it's still sad to see them succumb. I am pleased I managed to cover a clematis with masses of huge buds, in previous years a hard frost has killed off all the buds, but not this year, so that's my happy for today.

Minus four again last night, which is really cold for us with record breaking temperatures for April, but now we have a beautiful sunny day. And the cold spell is (probably) over with it forecast to be in the mid twenties by the end of the weekend!

Warming up and in double figures overnight for the first time.
But I've just noticed that the hard frosts at the start of the week have destroyed all the flower buds on the wisteria as well as all the above ground asparagus spears. Not a catastrophe, but a bit disappointing.

It's sad to see the frost damage the buds, springtime hopes dashed
