Potted on my Tom's, planted lettuce in troughs then put parsnips to chit.

Weeded what will be the parsnip bed.

I grabbed my loppers and chopped back the buddleia and hardy fuchsias. The ferns got their old fronds removed. I also gave the lavender, rosemary and sages a good trim.

I was like Edward Scissorhands cutting away. Smile

Cut a lot of old wood out of the jostaberries and blackcurrants. I work on the premise that, if there are not green buds, its dead.
Tip pruned some more raspberries - I keep finding strays but don't have the heart to dig them out - especially when they have flower buds on, like now.
Put an old container in the pond and filled it with water. If this hot spell dries up the water in the pond. I'll be able to scoop up the spawn and put it in the pan.
Went out on safari for Freebies and Yellow Stickers. It was a good day. Big Grin

Tidied my GH moving buckets of winter lettuce outside to make room for the table I use for seedlings.
Seed sowing and weeding after that.

Yeah that doesn't happen often! I had tried a recipe from a Bero leaflet and it was awful. It turned out more like a super dry scone than a sponge. Yuck.

I've made up for that by making two victoria sponges today that are absolutely lovely. One if so my young neighbour who so kindly spent half an hour fitting a light bulb in my car. The other one is for Jay's birthday - it will get eaten tomorrow, though it's not his birthday until Monday Smile

Today was lawn day for me. First I worked on getting the new back lawn area ready for seeding: tread, rake, tread, rake, removing spanish bluebell bulbs in the process. Then I had a go at the moss on the front lawn. Two passes with the scarifier, one with the mower, removed 3 wheelbarrow loads from less than 20 square metres. Then I applied iron sulphate to blacken the remaining moss. It'll be interesting to see how it looks in the morning.

I potted on some toms, left some in gh to fend for themselves with just fleece over them in 2° overnight temps as an experiment. I know they don't like below 10° but I have enough of each variety that are being nurtured with warmth. Sowed a bit. Going to prepare the plot for carrots and onion sets today
if the soil isn't too claggy.
