Took dogs out at dusk to help fill up the log basket and heard a snipe drumming, first of the year. Quite easily I think. Skew being skew did a disappearing act. Shouting for him spooked a pair of barn owls out of the oak tree. They didn’t go far, they just waited for use to go back in the house.
Builder that would like to go play in the garden.

We have just had a Moorhen wandering round the garden. Do hope it finds the ponds, lots of Duck weed for it there.

Battle of the finches today over the plots, bull finches tried to muscle in but were out number by the gold finches. Was nice to see a few green finches as well

We saw a greenfinch yesterday too, first for a while. And the chaffinch numbers seem to have increased again. It just shows that individual efforts in our own gardens might make a difference to the bigger picture.

I am having a really strange experience with a Blue tit, every morning around 5-5:30 it comes knocking on the bedroom window flapping up against the glass, it then spends the day moving from one room to the next and finally to the kitchen patio doors.
I have feeders (peanut, wild bird seed, and fat balls) hanging on my apple tree outside the kitchen and I have a great selection of finches, tits and sparrows feeding from them, then the starlings arrive and take over, also robin and blackbirds and pigeons feeds on the ground from the bits that fall out. The crows and jackdaws come in and attack the feeders as well.
But I can’t get over this blue tit that keeps flapping at the windows. At first I thought he was flying into the window but watching him he is not, he is flapping his wings and tapping his beak at the glass.
Anybody ever experience anything like this before ?
Coffee keeps me busy until it’s acceptable to drink whiskey.

Or trying to drive off a rival. We had to chuck a dust sheet over the car and shut the shutters on one window because a wagtail spent all day attacking the glass and mirrors.

You've reminded me that last year I had to put pop socks on my wing mirrors to stop the bird attacking and carping on them!!
