A friend has asked me where’s the best place to buy a cold frame. So I’m asking you lot . She is well aware you can make one quite simply. She is also quite aware it won’t happen until August waiting for her husband to make it. If she’s lucky it’ll be this August . So she would rather just buy one. Anyway I’m fairly clueless when it comes to using & buying such things. Recommendations for where to look / buy, thank you.

No help here I am afraid.
I have an aluminium framed glass one which I scrounged from a skip, and half a dozen double glazing panels which were left on my plot by the previous occupant. They fit the top of the raised beds with an overlap and I use them as cold frames if required.

I've looked at these before SC and all I can say is some of the prices they charge I think I'd be expecting a greenhouse. All of the large online plant sellers do them as do places like amazon, argos and DIY stores. They really are quite easy to knock up though with a bit of wood (pallets?) and an old window or polycarb sheet.

I Know Dobies sell cold frames but they are a bit pricey, you can buy cold frames from the Range, various styles and materials, there is a pvc covered frame for about £20. then polycarbonate about £50 then ofcourse glass which no doubt wil cost more for postage there is also Wilcos with and ebay, I don't remember there being any garden centers in Oban, but haven't been there for years

Greenhouse people?? They aren't cheap though - she could get a second hand greenhouse for less.

Wilco's - out of stock bug they usually restock quite quickly. This looks ok for the money?

Sc tell your friend to look up polycarbonate suppliers, many of them will cut to size and deliver Britain and Europe, which means that the she could order sheets what ever size she needs, suppot the walls with bricks and place a lid on the top which again could be held in place with a couple of bricks, then when her OH has time it's there ready for him

And she’s not afraid to spend money, in fact she quit enjoys it .
