Are they the same as babbington leeks? Babbingtons are what I've got growing from you last issue of bubils.
Yes, They're Babington perennial leeks. I won't be offended if you don't want them! Big Grin

On reflection I'll stay with my original thoughts, I can find a home next door for some if necessary or retain them in case mine don't survive, so yes please as long as postage allows

PS I have only got 4 very young plants, nowhere near harvesting stage. By the way, how are they harvested? Dig out in total like ordinary leeks or chop tops off leaving roots insitu?

Think about why they're called "perennial" leeks. If you dig them up like ordinary leeks, they'd be annual ones!
I'll be honest with you, I've only taken the odd leaf off them for flavouring. I'm aiming to grow a big clump of them because they're rare in the wild and the only place I've seen them is on Flat Holm island. I consider them to be an ornamental onion as the flowers are fascinating, so tall!

I remember you saying they were rare and passed on some growing bulbs to a pal, both his and mine died off but  mine have come back, I'm not sure about his. If you send some I'll give them again.

Query: if you cut leeks in the bed off at the base to they grow again and become perennial? Smile

I always replant leek stumps (and spring onions). They regrow, flower and set seed. There are little patches of leeks all round the garden.

JJB, your seeds have arrived - Thank you. Big Grin A few more candidates for the G&G flower bed!
I'd better get a move on and pack up my offerings!

That’s not a problem at all. It’s like a late Christmas present when we’re into the new year and everything’s depressing.
