The wet of the last couple of weeks has been a problem here. The vegetable garden is waterlogged with the water running off it down the drive onto our patio. Our soakaway that I dug 40+ years ago maybe can't cope any more. I don't know how it is still working at all with puddles on the surface not draining away and it being a big hole lower down with about a foot of soil on top. The front and back house roofs drain into the same soakaway and, as it can't cope with the water that has come down, filled the patio and threaten to enter the living room. I bought a water pump about 2 years ago the first time this happened and had to use it once last winter. This time is was used for 3 days running including 3 times overnight Sunday night. Then, when the rain stopped and it went frosty, it cleared over night and levels in the grids are right down but there is still lots of standing water on the surface. All the fields about have standing water on with streams pouring off them and running down the road, no doubt taking pollution to the nearest brook. I'm not sure what to do about the problem as, although we are at the top of a shallow hill, the house is slightly below the garden area. Whether it is caused by climate change or just the passing of time?I tend to think it is changing climate as I don't recall the vegetable plot so flooded in the past and suspect it that waterlogging resulted in the death of a climbing rose and what seemed a perfectly healthy apricot. I'm hoping the wet does not kill of any more shrubs and plants as there are a lot in the affected area. And what do worms do when it is frozen on top and saturated below?

After the rain and snow came the frost with the last really cold one forecast tonight.

Maybe I am getting soft but the last four days seem to have got colder by the day? The heavy snow that fell originallu is still here but has turned to ice. My car is marooned and is staying put until the thaw. I might even go into hibernation myself! Big Grin

If there was a frost last night it had gone by the time I surfaced from under the duvet. Sunshiny now (sorry Vinny) but not warm sunny, more bright sunny.
