Look who I've found - a Scarlet Tiger Moth - proving that I didn't massacre all the caterpillars in error!
I needed somewhere to rehome the bee ( ?Hairy-footed Flower bee) which was crawling up my arm and just by chance I spotted the Moth. Hope they're friends now.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen either of those. Very nice things to find in your garden.

I've got box moth caterpillars eating their way through the two box 'balls' in the front. The moth came from China and has no natural predators here (so sayeth the web) but I'm sure I saw a great tit having a right old rummage and come out with a caterpillar in its beak.

I hope you're right, JJB, and the birds are developing a taste for them. Around here, people are ripping out their box hedges as the caterpillars are everywhere.

The Scarlet TIger Moth caterpillars are back - feasting on white comfrey, in their usual position near the shed. https://gardenandgossip.org/showthread.p...156&page=2

Box hedge moth caterpillars are abundant and decimating my box balls. There's a plan afoot to eventually remove the box, there's just no point trying to protect them. I've seen a Scarlet Tiger Moth flying about but no caterpillars yet.
