Time for a little story
I always bought my Mum an Amaryllis at Christmas time because she had so much pleasure from watching them grow - like you are SC.
One year, I acquired an artificial Amaryllis stem of flowers and took it to my Mum, along with a "real" one. I walked into her flat, clutching the artificial flower and, doing my best to look sad and embarrassed, & told her that the flower stem had caught in the door and snapped off. She called me a few names which I will leave to your imagination ! As usual when I played tricks on her, I couldn't keep a straight face for long, and started laughing. Cue for even ruder names!
For years, she kept the artificial one in a vase in the kitchen window, where it could be seen by everyone walking past her flat. It always made her laugh when one of the visitors would comment on the beautiful flowers in the window.
I'm all for artificial flowers, especially as I no good at growing real ones. I've a bunch of artificial sunflowers on the kitchen windowsill in my yellow kitchen. They brighten up my day all year round.
