Which means many different words and spelling for the same thing. Or that word meaning something very different in a different dialect. We went through lots of different opinions and advice before settling on Bradan. It had to be animal or plant in Gaelic ( one of the very few stipulations of buying the land) . We had to have something that didn’t need spelling every time we gave our address. Our first choice was sandpiper. As this was the first thing we photographed the first time we visited the island. Turns out sandpiper would need spelling every time and is different in every dialect and means some very disturbing things in some dialects. That you definitely don’t want to name your house. But salmon was the perfect choice as we very nearly (due to the incompetence of solicitors on both sides) brought the fishing rights to the land and not actually the land!(09-05-2025, 07:29 AM)Small chilli Wrote: We did this yesterdaySC is the name Bradan the Gaelic for Salmon ? as we Irish would spell it Bhradáin ?
