The ideal direction is to have the ends facing north to south so they get the best of the sun. Obviously this isn’t always possible. What beasties do you have over there that are going to devour your plants at any opportunity?

Thank you! I'm not worried about the shade, as the sun will come up from over the barn roof, and will have no shading until about 7 at night in the summer months. We're taking down one tree that is in the middle of it all, and the huge tree on the left will have three major branches taken off, and we will trim the ones on the other side too so we avoid falling branches.

The directions of the tunnels will be north/north east to south/south west. It's only slight off north to south. So that's perfect then - thank you! Smile

Beasties - the normal insects and bugs that destroy stuff, but also a LOT of roe deer who eat everything, wild boar that want to dig everything up, and rabbits/hares. The tunnels will hopefully be safe without any further security measurements, but all my veg beds will have fences around them or it will be snaffled quite quickly.
