Calld at Poundland today and bought another couple of boxes of 'Shake & rake' flower seeds One is Scented blooms Cottage garden mix and the other is a Butterfly & Bee wildlife garden shaker.
Thats four lots I have now so I was thinking like Balrick "I have a cunning plan"
I will still sow some in a bed alongside my house but the only things I eat from the allotment are basically alliums, and I only use them for flavouring rather than a vegeable! The space I have there would be too big to grow alliums alone, so why not grow flowers? It would pretty up the allotment and give me cut flowers for the home!
I will still keep the beds and paths system that I have created there and only grow enough alliums for my use! (been to plot today and pulled up some red and white onions to use that I had purposely left in situ.) I will do this in fuure as well. I have onions, garlic and elephant garlic growing away nicely and I may let some of the alliums set seed on purpose for the architectural beauty of their seed heads?
The main problem I have with these mixed flower seeds is differentiating the flowers from the weeds at an early age.I am wonderig whether I should sow them in trays of sterile compost then I know whatever germinates is NOT a weed!
