Speaking of which, I found a useless solar light, a relic of when I had this brilliant idea of putting solar lights down the garden so that I could find my way around after dark. Needless to say, it didn't work as the trees stopped the sun from charging the batteries. You can burn ash wood without needing to season it!
There's a diseased young ash tree in my way, that will need to be cut down. Its tall but not very thick so should be able to fell it. Its the first time I've seen a young ash tree with the diamond shaped marks that are evidence of Ash Dieback. I still have one huge old ash tree surviving - two have been cut down because they were dropping limbs and dangerous.
I planted a hardy fuchsia in this area about 20 years ago and its been swamped by brambles etc. Lots of branches have spread at ground level and I had to hack through them as they were a real trip hazard. I never realised they could grow so huge.
