You win, SC. - You're 99% correct. Its actually my last year's carrots that I failed to pick - so I've left them to go to seed. 
In the foreground of the photo are a few leek seed heads, top left is some sort of kale, bottom left corner are some of this year's broad beans.
Basically, its a photo of a vegetable plot that has gone to seed!
