These things (slugs) are sent to try us. 
I lost all my courgettes to something but, I have more seedlings waiting for another go, and I shall keep sowing them until I can pick a courgette!
I had a day amongst the weeds at the far end. Months ago, I covered a big patch of ground with pond liner to kill off the weeds and grass. However, the nettles and dock have sprung up all round the covered bit, the nettles have even forced their way through the liner. But, I'll get them, I'm pulling them up and throwing then onto the pond liner where I hope they will wither and die in the sunshine (fingers crossed).
