The dog lady told me that she'd chosen a female puppy as she thought it would be smaller and not eat as much as her adult male retriever. I probably said the wrong thing and said that being female didn't mean you were slim, meaning myself - then I realised that she would make 3 of me. 
Fortunately, she laughed and didn't seem to take it personally!
