I sowed some tulip seeds last week, as it happens. Three nice ripe seed pods on a pot of species tulips that flowered back in early April, I've never tried to grow them before but I thought why not. I sowed in a pot of 50-50 compost and grit, covered in grit and put in a corner of the greenhouse. I suspect that in the wild they would wait out the hot dry summer and germinate in the autumn. But I'm guessing, it's more fun than researching
