I remember my Mum making marrow rum - no sure why as she didn't drink!
She cut the top off the marrow, hollowed it out, filled it with sugar and fashioned some sort of hanging thing out of an old stocking. She hung it in the kitchen and we kids watched, intrigued, as it slowly rotted, dripped sticky liquor that attracted all the flies within a 5 mile radius and, eventually collapsed into a smelly heap.
It was enough to put anyone off marrows for life - so I'm pleased that nobody has suggested doing this.
