Its a plant that sends out canes.

So a cane will eventually become a plant?

I didn't realise they sold blackberries as canes?
Raspberries are often sold as 3 or 4 canes in a pot. They each get planted out to form plants.

Blackberries will to the same, stick a cane in and eventually it will grow into a small plant.

I've not looked, but usually blackberries are only sold as plants? They can get more money for one plant.

Why are you asking Danny? Do you want to buy some or propagate some from an existing plant?

Hi Scarlet/Veggie

My confusion was/is you can search for canes but the responses are always plants, I thought you could buy either canes or plants but obviously not.

Therefore if/when I get some I know I'm looking for plantsSmile

I only have one plant Danny ( no idea of variety sorry) and it spans a 4m wide 2m tall metal fence and I have to trim the ends. So when you say plants take that into consideration

Wild brambles spread themselves around by tip rooting - the stems (or you call them Canes) drop to the ground and root wherever they land. That's how bramble thickets grow and, when you need to clear them, you have to pull up every rooted tip.
Some of the other long stem fruits also do this - don't ask me which as they lost their names years ago.
I don't grow cultivated blackberries - just pick the wild ones that grow in the garden.

Cheers mcdood

I ordered 3 plants earlier today! Smile

My intention is to plant them across the plot in a row, at the moment I'm not to concerned about them running amuck as long as I keep on top of them! (famous last wordsSmile)
