Rat catching and rat defences are on the cards for today. We need a terrier.

Today I sorted out a tub and planted my Tayberry. I screwed a trellis to the wall for it to climb on as well.

I then received a rather large load of logs I had ordered, so after moving my motorhome out of the way so he could tip the load, I started to wheel barrow the logs to there storage position. I doubt whether I will finish shifting the logs today but with no rain forcast? they should be ok where they are for a day or two as it's shopping day tomorrow! Smile

Put together a raised bed for the back garden. One remains to be put together. Sowed some rather old bupleurum seed from a seed swap. Added and removed seed packs from an online basket. It's getting too late for more flower seed and I don't have space for what I have but...

Dug up all the outside dahlias and moved them to a different bed. They had completely taken over the bed they were growing in last year so I made a note to move them to another bed where I could make space by moving some irises and verbena.
Popped in nasturtium seeds between all the dahlias. They're a nice companion for them.
Potted on various flowers and bush tomatoes.
Yet more weeding.

Finished filling very large pot and planted a red currant in it. Had a little compost mix left so potted on a few of my cottage garden plants that were desperate for a little more space. Watered all outside pots again. Started digging up the daffodils that have gone over, from the postbox bed. Tightly planted into a pot. Loads more to dig. Not all have finished flowering. They will be going back into that bed once it’s been given a makeover.

Not much outdoors today - bit too windy with dying ash trees nearby. It calmed down this afternoon so I chose Sticky Willie/Cleavers as my Weed of the Day and collected as many as I could see.

Garrett do you not suffer the dreaded blackfly with your dahlias and nasturtiums living together. I find either get covered in aphids, I hate to think what they would harbour mixed together.

Put together my other raised bed. Nice husband is going to pick up cheap compost from the R*nge to mix with homemade compost, grass clippings, and anything else I can find to fill them up.

Went to the plot earlier and found that I had cooked the things I left in the cold frame. Gave them some water and moved them under the brassica netting instead. Did some weeding but didn't make a dent in the wild weeds. My only hope is weeding when I transplant out and getting my crops to make their own ground cover.

Did some more seed shopping (but not yet buying).

The dahlias do get attacked by blackfly but I usually have lots of ladybirds around so I collect them up and dispense them on the dahlias and let them chomp away. I have more issues with slugs than aphids.

Another day of watering and digging up daffodils and planting them in pots temporarily.
