2026 - What I did today.

Cut down all the overwintering mangetout in GH4. They were past their best and getting in my way. Moved the 3 tubs, with support canes out of the GH. I'll probably resow them with more peas and mix in some sweetpeas I think I know the difference between the flowers and pods now.
Emptied a tub in GH1 and harvested some baby spuds. I knew they were there! The foliage died off some time ago but I was saving emptying it for a treat!
Ted sniffed out some more deceased mice in GH4. This is the second time we've found dead mice in this wastebin. They seem to fall in and can't climb out again. There were 3 mice in various stages of decomposition - one was quite fresh.
I took all the dead leaves off the scented pelargoniums which improved the smell in GH4 a bit.

Satisfied the gardening itch by going through seeds and considering (I won't say 'deciding' because i know I'll be changing my mind) what to grow this coming year. Although it's not what to grow, but more which varieties of the normal selection to choose. Those big decisions of which tomato and how many. I restricted myself on toms, cucs and courgettes last year and may do so even more this year, but the FOMO at seed sowing time might win. Anyone else made their growing decisions yet? I bet you're all ahead of me.

Cut back all the dead/ dried stems in the cottage garden. Cut them all into small pieces. Bagged them up and put them in the tunnel. Ready for adding to the hot composter. Planted some spuds that were sprouting. In a potato grow bag, in the polytunnel. Saved some seeds.

Pulled up and composted outdoor lettuces that haven’t survived the ice and snow. Gathered twigs/ branches they’ll do for fire lighting.

Its rained heavily all day so I gardened in my imagination.

Just had a log delivery, prior to the predicted heavy snow falling next week?, so my day will be spent transporting and stacking them. Log man is supposedly bringing another load next week, so that should do me until the summer, if he can get through the snow? 
Note:- Rain stopped play after ten barrow loads as I was absolutely drenched. My auld boss you to say "You'll be alreet, ya skin is waterproof" but I don't work for him now so sod it!

Sown seeds. Emptied some more pots of compost and sieved it.

Squeezed a couple of hours of hacking & weeding in before the rain arrived. Mostly cutting down old raspberry canes and pulling up Vinca. Every little helps!

Not what I've done but what I think I'm going to do. Nextdoor are having an ash tree felled, it has die back. I might just go and chat the men up to blag some chippings to use as paths and mulch against drought around the sweetcorn. Whilst the tree is nextdoor, the machinery is one house over, all due to access problems, so any trundling of chippings will be in bags over two stock fences. There's also the problem of where to put it. It's a plan in progress that might be abandoned. I've checked on the net that ash die back chippings are acceptable on the plot (as long as I'm not growing ash trees )

I had to have an ash tree felled a few years ago. Luckily, it was chipped on site and was easy to spread on paths. I also had a big mound of chippings that got really hot, composting. There's no trace of the chippings now. All rotted down.
Unfortunately, all the ash trees around here are diseased. My neighbour has a few along our shared boundary that regularly drop branches on my side. I have just one ash tree now, hoping it will survive.
