Now I know this is not a Challenge that most/all of you will join me in. However, it would be remiss of me not to share it with you.
As you know, I try to keep my daily food spend to £1 a day but I don't have a way to be accurate about it - so, in October, I'm going to give myself £31 to spend on food. If I go to the shop, I'll keep the till receipt and add up what I've spent on MY food - not anyone else's, like the dog.
Anything that I eat from stock (cupboard/freezer) is FREE. I'm hoping that this will free up some cupboard & freezer space and make me use more homegrown fruit & veg.
I'll probably need to buy butter & yogurt out of my £31 which will mean a visit to the shop, and, when I do, I'll try not to be led astray unless I can "afford" it.
Its a bit like returning to the Covid lockdown days, when we were unable to go shopping and lived on whatever we had in the cupboard. I'm going to try it again, without the fear of running out of toilet rolls.

Life's too short and we all haven't all got a 'Prawn Lady' though?

The way you eat you'd only get a sausage a day.

I've put £31 in a jar to last me the month. I won't actually be taking the jar shopping with me - I'm not that daft! Its just a visual reminder of my Challenge. All Till receipts will also go in the jar and, hopefully, there'll be enough money to "pay" for my food. There may even be some money left for a treat.
I have to Challenge myself regularly, however ridiculous it seems to you all. It makes my mundane life more interesting.

It lends a little something to our lives too.

Edit Reason: 365, not 356 - twp.
)
Its Day 7 and I haven't bought anything yet.
I've driven past Morries, Lidl & Aldi and ignored the urge to pop in and see if there were any bargains! Even my Dentist's surgery premises is above a mini-Tesco and I usually kill time in there before my appointment, Not this time! I amazed myself.
Already, my mind is trying to tweak this £1 a day Challenge, What if I put £365 in a jar and lived on that for a year? Would it make me put more effort into making the garden feed me year round?
I have just gone into profit on the Garden Balance Sheet https://gardenandgossip.org/showthread.p...ance+sheet
How can I improve on that to supplement my £1 a day food supply? (Rhetorical question )
I'm trying to be realistic - telling myself that I haven't even managed a month yet - and I'll soon be running out of yogurt (even if I make my own, I'd need to buy a yogurt starter and milk) so something has to come out of the Kitty Jar soon. I've just finished a jar of peanut butter which is something I ran out of during lockdown. I keep a backup peanut butter now, just in case!

If you don't need your pound this week, put a scratch card on and your wories could fade away! PS Can you still get £1 srcatch cards?

Needed to buy yogurt & butter so went to Lidl with a list and stuck to it. Spent £2.84 as I'm only "paying" 50% of the food, like butter, that I share. The yogurt is all mine but it should last me until next month.
£28.16 left in the jar for the rest of October.
I surprised myself by how strong willed I was! Normally, I'm led astray by crisps or sweets (junk food) but I told myself there were still some in the cupboard and I must eat them first, before buying more. There was nothing in the YS section that tempted me so that was easy to ignore.
