Thunderstorm at 4 has left us without power and not expected back on until 05.30 tomorrow. Engineers think it’s a cable fault so currently digging somewhere.

I just think they need to put a shilling in the meter Smile

Always remember the man coming to empty the meter. What was left over was put in a jar next to the meter, used to go down quicker if I wanted sweets.... sure my Nan knew Smile

My Nan had a penny meter and the pennies were in a bowl on the dresser. To keep us quiet, she'd ask us to count the pennies! When that was done, we'd have to sort the button box, matching the buttons into sets!
My Grandad used to give me my favourite job - to go upstairs and find the big brown suitcase - it was always under the bed!! Inside, nestling on a cream Welsh wool blanket were the ripening tomatoes. I can still remember the thrill of finding one that was turning red and running downstairs, clutching it carefully and proudly showing it to my grandparents - as if I'd grown it myself.
Kids these days with all their electronic gadgets will never understand how we found pleasure in such simple things.

In the same way we couldn’t understand our parents or grandparents childhoods V. We are born of our time we know no different, we might long for simpler times but then there would be no communication between like minded folk over great distance in a heart beat. Wink

PS my daughter still has the tomato suitcase appreciation, as will her children if she has any later in life. Smile

Most definitely! Couldn't pass a phone box without pressing the buttons in the hope that some coins might fall out. You could do a lot with tuppence then.Smile
