I planted an apple tree yesterday, type 'Aroma' that I bought a couple of weeks ago for far too cheap for a big tree like that. I laid cardboard around it in a circle, put stones around the edges and then tipped in wood chippings in the middle.
Been out watering it tonight, and will continue to do so for a couple of weeks. That's the advice, isn't it?
Oh and I was out inspecting the kale and cabbages, and found my first cabbage white caterpillar. I duly grabbed it and squashed it on the ground. I've not actually seen any butterflies, but I'll have to keep a close eye on my babies now.
Back to 'cut & fill' ground levelling for my new shed today. I'll keep my other shed door open to dive into if the rain starts pelting it down. !0 foot by 8 foot doesn't sound much of an area but with the slope of the ground I will need to dig down a couple of spade depths at one end!

I've been out digging a tiny trench for the robot lawnmower line that will keep it within its boundaries. It's harder work than it sounds, as the entire yard really is just gravel.
Progress so far on shed base. Not quite level yet, but after one and a half days hacking through very stony ground (garden was a river bed in the past million years methinks?) and cutting and filling slope, my right wrist tells me I have done enough and any titifying can be done once I have assembled the 10 X 8 shed base. (Still waiting of it arriving as yet?)

Planted a stray privet that had been lingering in a bucket of water for ages, Planted polyanthus under a tree in the shade having removed them from the bedding area. Set out the spacing sticks for sweetcorn so I know how much spare space I have in the patch. Started to plant out the 5 gasping leftover toms.
Planted out some dwarf french beans.
Sowed some climbing french beans as replacements for a few sad specimens that look like they've been munched by slugs and won't recover.

Potted up some cucumbers (Dragons Egg & Burpless Tasty Green). Also some Squash - Violin, a Butternut and a couple of others I can't remember.
The Bay tree was trimmed so, instead of piling all the prunings into the waste bin I turned some into cuttings and stuck them in the Cuttings box (one of the big green supermarket crates). Dug up some rooted rosemary cuttings from the crate to make room for the bay. Potted up the rosemary.
