Merseyside farmer: "Harvest disappearing in front of our eyes" It has been the driest start to spring in 69 years

A farmer I watch on YouTube has downgraded his expected gross income from wheat from £30k to £5k. He said that when the plants are stressed they start to drop their tillers (side shoots), which massively reduces the yield.

Thunder, rain and hailstones. Not sure which way its going as there's no wind. Better get your washing in though. Big Grin

We've had a week or two of dull weather and rain, which was well needed. The farmers in the village are complaining, and the soil is literally flying off the fields when it's windy. Today has been sunny, but now it's overcast but still warm.

The forecast said wall to wall sunshine all day but in reality it was overcast all day.

Lovely sun here this morning, due to last all day. Is it wrong of me to be wishing for a full day of rain? Smile

Yes, its wrong of you. You should wish for a day of sun and a night of rain. Big Grin

We need more than a day. I'm about to go out and water early potatoes - never done that before and I'm 74.
