What's flying near you?

P was quite delighted this morning when replenishing the bird tables, as usual he noticed the several robins eying him up waiting for him to give them breakfast, but in addition to the robins were a few long tailed tits for the first time ever.

Lots of little birds coming to the bird feeding station here. In terms of birds of prey, there are a few different kinds of kites here, and even a few golden eagles in the region. I've not been lucky enough to spot the eagles yet.

We have had some birds probably from your neck of the woods. Fieldfare visit us every year. First they eat all the berries off the holly trees and then, particularly when very frosty, we see them with blackbirds and thrushes ( and squirrels unfortunately) eating windfall apples. They seem to like them partially rotted/fermented. The apples and berries have gone now and the fieldfares have moved on. They usually come as a large flock of more than 50 but never counted.

A female sparrowhawk came down to the waterfall and pond, stayed for a few minutes hopping about being generally curious. Not sure the little birds appreciated her as much as I did.

   

Nice to see a male bullfinch, even if he was eating the flower buds on a peach tree! The fruit is usually rubbish so I don't mind

Aww they're lovely aren't they? They're very common here. We call them birch thrushes here.

Finally, the pheasant that has been seen around here for 2 years has made it into the garden. I've heard it many times, but this is the first time I've seen it. Quite near the house too.

I'd be quite happy to see peacock butterflies.

We also have buzzards and bees about. Also a dozen rooks sitting in our silver birch this morning and a ring dove on our patio. Out for a walk a drake and duck paddling in a puddle and 2 lapwings over a farm field.
