Next silly question. If I do actually get a baby or 2 from my leaf . Are they a house plant? Summer outside, indoors for winter? Or outside with protection (in polytunnel) over winter? Never grown a begonia of any variety before.

I think they're house plants. I sure Veggie will tell us. I'm not convinced my leaf is going to have babies at all.

I keep mine indoors. It needs watering quite often as the leaves go floppy - I water into the pot but not onto the leaves in case it discolours them. It has small white flowers the same as the little bedding begonias - they're not spectacular, unlike the big tuberous begonias.
I've never tried it outside.

I have 3 babies at the moment. Wonder if I’ll get any more. It’s very exciting.
Once babies are bigger. And are ready for separate pots. I’ll send you one JJB, if you like. As yours didn’t make it. You did have more important things on at the time .

I can send JJB another leaf if you want to have another go.

Whilst I may take either on of you up on the offer of newbies and thank you both for the offers, atm my last leaf section isn't rotting but nor is it producing babies. I'll wait and see if the leaf does anything before calling in reinforcements. I might put it in the airing cupboard to give if a bit of warm. I've got it on the kitchen windowsil which could get a bit chilly overnight.

My rooted leaf has babies at the bottom. I didn't expect that! Next time I'll leave less stem in the water.

That’s a very strong root system. How exciting.
Have you considered cutting the bottom bit of stem off and putting the leaf back in the water. See if it’ll do it again?
