2025 - Freecycle and similar Free stuff

I've been assigned one of the rooms in the basement for my gardening stuff, which is handy, because that is a mere few steps away from a door to the outside and a few steps away from there we will be growing veg.

However, I wanted a substantial shelving system that isn't costing the earth, and last night I struck lucky. A Kallax 25 hole shelf came up on the marketplace on FB for less than 30 quid. It has 8 large plastic drawers/boxes too.

I went and picked it up today. Whilst it's not free, it's definitely reusing, recycling and saving things from going to the tip.

I will most definitely need to take it apart to get it into the basement though.

IN today came a "micro" oven - its larger than the microwave - has a heating elements at the top (grill) and at the bottom, or use both together. It takes up more worktop space than the airfryer but isn't as tall. Once I've cleaned it I'll decide where to put it. The obvious thing is to get rid of one of my 2 microwaves but I'm not sure about that as I often use two at once. Time will tell.Smile
Also IN came 2 jars of Creamy mushroom sauce and tins of M&S Baked beans, chick peas x 2, another sort of bean that I can't remember, 3 tins of peaches and pineapple rings. Think I'd better start eating tinned peaches with my breakfast!
On the radio last week, I caught a snatch of the afternoon play. The reader described Sunday afternoon tea at her grandmother's house. Gran would empty a tin of peach slices into a glass bowl where the peaches would float around like goldfish. I can't get rid of this image now.Big Grin

OUT went the mini-oven and I hung on to the 2 microwaves.

IN came an enormous - pre-moving cupboard & freezer clearout from one of my regulars. I've been collecting "food" from her for 3 years - the first collection was 2 days after her son was born and he's 3 now. I'm going to miss her when she moves at the end of this week. Sad as she always has interesting stuff.
She gave me 3 bags for life full of odds and ends, plus a 24 jar spice rack, most jars with spices or herbs. Lots of different vinegars and sauces, frozen bacon, chicken fillets, garlic bread, curries. Peanut butter powder & palm sugar (she said to add a pinch to curries to take the edge off the spices).
I'm still sorting out the contents, trying to replace my older spices with her fresher ones. Perfect job for a wet afternoon.

Thanks JJB. I made something similarish for lunch - a flatbread, spread with salsa dip, sliced mozzarella and some salad leaves. The avocados felt firm enough to keep for a few days so I'll keep these recipes in mind!

I was getting quite peckish looking for those,  shame I had no mozz or avo. Breaded fish, veg  and wedges instead tonight.
