Our local recycling centre now has a 're-use shop' rather than everything going into the skips, they'll sell anything good/interesting apart from electrical items.

Ours does too but I've never been there as I don't throw anything away. Big Grin

The one in Oban also does . It’s very good. Unfortunately it’s slightly out of town so only go to it if we take the car over to the mainland.

IN today came a Breville Blend Active - mushes up fruit etc straight into drinking bottles which fit your bike!! As if I have a need for that! Also an Hand blender (one of those stick things) to replace the elderly one that I have. Both gadgets came together but I'll probably pass the Blender thing away.
Also IN a bag of CDs - mostly classical/opera.

An elderly lady (101) still living on her own. With carers coming in to see her every day. Finally left the village around October/ November. With the decision that she couldn’t stay in the house another winter. So she was moved to a nursing home down south somewhere, closer to family. Unfortunately she passed away just before Christmas. Her granddaughter has been here this weekend sorting things out. As everyone knows Bob is a wood turner he was contacted to see if he wanted the lathe that was in the garage. Especially as Bob used to cut the grass for her. We also recently found out the this lady was an artist. So was asked if there was any chance of one of her paintings we could have to remember her by.
We got there and the granddaughter said the family is keeping a few bites, but most will be going to house clearances. So if want anything to take it. We came home with a car full of some of the most random things you could imagine, lots of tools some useful some just very old and cool. And at least 6 of her paintings.
We’re going back tomorrow afternoon for a Welsh dresser and some crockery and lot of plant pots.
We will be making a donation to RNLI.
I do feel like a bit of a vulture  Blush . But someone who knew her have some of her stuff and making a donation. Has got to be better than house clearance making money out of all her things.

I'm sure the old lady would be pleased to know that her stuff was staying in the village where it will be appreciated. House clearance people are the vultures, not you.

Her treasures live on through you. Every time you use one of her tools or look at her paintings you will remember her, that's a damn site more than any house clearer will do, and it's not like you didn't have permission. I put dibs on next door's wheelbarrow when he died (also felt a bit awful doing it) but the wheelbarrow is called John and we think of him every time we use it. A fine wheelbarrow it is too.
No guilt required.

I agree with the others she was part of your community and now you have something to remember her by.
