My something new was oversleeping. I didn't wake up until 10.15am this morning. I even had a phone call from a concerned neighbour. To be fair I had a very restless night and my body must have been catching up. Not something I'm planning to make a habit of. It throws the whole daily routine out.

My something new-ish was making jam (raspberry & blackberry) as I haven't done that for a year or so. I really need to do it more often as its not well set! Tastes OK though and that's the main thing.

My something new. Well not really new, more once in a lifetime . Last night’s aurora was spectacular . It could be seen so vividly even with the naked eye. The sky was lit up almost as much as when you have a full moon. I stayed outside for about an hour watching it move and glow. It was just the most magical experience. I took about 50 photos with my phone. Wish my phone wasn’t such an old relic . But I still have some slight cr@p photos to remind me of it.

I've tried spiralizing tromba tonight. I regularly spiralize courgettes usually to stir fry or just bung in the micro with some butter if time is short. I thought it probably would be OK and it was, but because of a phone call, I cooked it a bit too long and it went a bit mushy. Will try again.

This evening I dressed like a witch to scare a group of kids. The neighbours have a Halloween party and take the kids round the village in a trailer and all the parents and this year lots of the locals joined in with the opportunity to scare them. And they stop off in different places around getting treats from some locals and being told scary stories. This was very new to me. Normally I don’t actually have the parents permission to scare the kids, it just happens .

I did much the same thing when our lad was small. Next day the parents complained I'd been too scary (my costume and make up was rather gruesome) and given the kids nightmares. Sometimes you can't win.

Yesterday I did something I haven't done for 40 odd years. I held P's hand walking around town. Nothing romantic I'm afraid, his balance is suspect atm and I was promoted to 'walking aid'. I think I'm better looking than a walking stick
